Canal Neighborhood Transportation Plan (CBTP)TAM and the City of San Rafael received funds from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) to develop a transportation plan in the Canal neighborhood. The transportation plan was a collaborative effort involving residents and community-based organizations (CBOs) providing services within minority and low-income neighborhoods, local transit operators, TAM, and MTC. The Canal neighborhood transportation plan includes a list of important improvements needed to make it easier to get around the Canal and to other parts of San Rafael.
Canal Neighborhood Technical Advisory CommitteeThe Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) consisted of staff representatives from MTC, TAM, City of San Rafael, County Board of Supervisors, Marin County Transit District, Golden Gate Transit, Marin County Health and Human Services, Canal Welcome Center, and Pickleweed Community Center:
Canal Neighborhood Stakeholder CommitteeTo guide the planning project, the San Rafael City Council created a Canal Stakeholder Committee including Canal residents, Canal property and business owners, and people who work in the Canal. Stakeholder Committee members worked with their neighbors and other interested people to learn about transportation issues, identify and evaluate possible solutions, and recommend a list of improvements that will make it safer and more comfortable for people to walk, bike and use a bus in the Canal. The Stakeholder Committee began its work in the fall 2005 and met approximately five times, including two community-wide workshops.
