Looking northeast to East San Rafael shows US 101 and the Cal Park Hill bike path in the foreground, I-580 in the middle distance, and San Pablo Bay in the far distance. Project alternatives would connect between US 101 and I-580 in this general vicinity.

Proposed Alternatives

Alternative 1

Est. cost $20-50M
Alternative 1 would include Bellam Corridor improvements for vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians to address congestion and safety and would span less than half a mile.
Safety enhancements would consist of new or improved sidewalks and bicycle lanes between the east and west sides of I-580 along Bellam Boulevard from Andersen Drive to Kerner Boulevard.
This alternative is also reviewing design options for signalized intersection modifications and/or roundabouts.

Alternative 2

Est. cost $241M  (Visual simulation)
Drivers would exit US 101 northbound near Bellam Boulevard and merge onto I-580 eastbound on a connector that crosses over the existing northbound US 101 / eastbound I-580 off-ramp.
Alternative 2 would also include all the improvements described in Alternative 1.

Alternative 3

Est. cost $192M  (Visual simulation)
Drivers would exit US 101 northbound near Bellam Boulevard and merge onto I-580 eastbound on a connector that crosses over the existing northbound US 101 / eastbound I-580 off-ramp.

The connector has two lanes connecting the both freeways and provides an optional left-side exit to the existing Bellam Boulevard off-ramp.

Alternative 3 would also include all the improvements described in Alternative 1.
