The Consolidated School Bus Study, officially titled the Coordinated Countywide School Transportation Study, was developed by TAM, Marin Transit and the Marin County Office of Education (MCOE) to identify and evaluate student transportation services, including yellow school buses and transit in Marin County. The County’s overall goal is to increase the number of “green trips” to school to relieve congestion on major roadways and encourage healthy mobility for students.

In this vein, TAM currently offers a number of school transportation programs through its Safe Routes to Schools program. Now that this study is complete, the next steps are to develop a plan and analyze costs and potential funding sources, as well as operations and maintenance locations. The core focus of the plan will be on identifying appropriate and scalable models for bus service and evaluating how these models could be better coordinated and integrated into the current Safe Routes to School offerings.
